Intel prepares for presentation of 10-core processors
Representatives of corporation of Intel in past Sunday have published documents in which it is said that the future generation of northern processors Westmere-EX will include essentially more cores, than existing Intel Xeon. In the document published on a site of Intel on the threshold of conference Hot Chips 22, it is said that future Westmere-EX will include the physical cores handling to 20 parallel data flows on one physical chip. Accordingly, dual-processor servers can service to 40 data flows simultaneously.
The former record of Intel made northern 16 streams on one processor Nehalem-EX with 8 processor cores. Chips Westmere-EX are further development of processor Nehalem architecture. Both variants of processors are created in such a manner that on one kernel is serviced to two data flows.
Before Intel started shipping Westmere for desktop PCs and notebooks. There is also operated at the core of two data streams in parallel.
In Intel document the concrete number of cores is not informed and the prices for chips are not specified, however is informed that server Westmere-EX will be created on the basis of 32-nanometer of technology and their production starts at the very beginning of the next year.
Let’s remind that on Hot Chips the novelties also will show companies Advanced Micro Devices and IBM. The first promises to show a new generation of processors for workstations and the servers known code-named Bulldozer and microarchitecture Bobcat. IBM intend to show new microprocessors for mainframes System z.
