What is my WAN IP Address
WAN IP address is your global, external IP address. WAN IP address is IP address in WAN (Wide Area Network). In other words, it is your IP address in the Internet. If you have a Dinamic IP, then your WAN IP address will be changed from time to time. If you have a Static IP, then your WAN IP address will remain the same all the time (usually much better, if you want to run the game-, network-, or FTP- server).
What is WAN Network
WAN Network ( Wide Area Network ) is a computer network that covers large territory (ie, any network whose communications combine whole metropolis, region or even state and include dozens, hundreds or even millions of computers ) For comparison, the Personal Network, LAN ( Local area network ), Campus Network ( Campus area network, CAN ) or Metropolitan area network ( Metropolitan area network, MAN) do not usually go beyond the rooms, buildings, campus or specific metropolitan area (ie city).
IP address
(Internet Protocol address) — the unique identifier (address) of the device (usually the computer), connected to a local area network or the Internet.
IP address represents 32-bit (under version IPv4) or 128-bit (under version IPv6) binary number. The convenient form of record of ip address (IPv4) is record in the form of four decimal numbers (from 0 to 255), divided by points, for example, 192.168.0.1. (Or 128.10.2.30 — the traditional decimal form of representation of the address, and 10000000 00001010 00000010 00011110 — the binary form of representation of the same address).
IP addresses represent the main type of addresses on which basis IP protocol network layer transfers packages between networks. IP address is assigned by the manager during configuration of computers and routers.
IP address consists of two parts: numbers of a network and site number. If the network is isolated, its address can be selected by the manager from blocks of addresses specially reserved for such networks (192.168.0.0/16 172.16.0.0/12 or 10.0.0.0/8). If the network has to work as the constituent of the Internet the network address is provided by the ISP or regional Internet Registry (Regional Internet Registry, RIR). In total there are five RIR:
ARIN – servicing the North America;
APNIC – servicing the countries of South East Asia;
AfriNIC – servicing the countries of Africa;
LACNIC – servicing the countries of the South America and pool of Caribbean sea;
RIPE NCC – servicing Europe, the Central Asia, the Near East.
Regional loggers receive a numbers of standalone systems and the big blocks of addresses from ICANN, and then produce numbers of standalone systems and blocks of addresses of the smaller size for local Internet loggers (Local Internet Registries, LIR), usually being large providers.
Site number in IP protocol is assigned irrespective of the local address of the site. The router by definition enters at once into some networks. Therefore each port of a router has its own ip address. The finite site also can enter into some IP networks. In this case the computer should have some ip addresses, on number of network links. Thus, ip address characterizes not the separate computer or a router, and one network connection.
Classes of IP addresses
Which part of the address refers to the network number and which to the node number is determined by the values of the first bits of the address. The values of these bits are also signs that tell whether a one or another IP-address.
The figure shows the structure of IP addresses of various classes.
Classless addressing
Since the second half 90 of the XX century class routing everywhere superseded classless routing, in which the number of addresses in the network is determined solely subnet mask.
Special IP address
In the IP protocol, there are several agreements on specific interpretations of IP addresses:
* If the entire IP address consists of binary zeros, it indicates the address of the node that generated the packet, this mode is only used in some reports ICMP;
* If the network numbers in the field are only zeros, then the default is that the destination host belong to the same network as the node that sent the packet;
* If the binary digit of all IP addresses is equal to 1, the packet with this destination address should be sent to all nodes located in the same network as the source of this package. This newsletter is a limited broadcast (limited broadcast);
* If the number field node destination are only a few of the package, which has such an address is sent to all network nodes with a given network number. For example, the network 192.190.21.0 with mask 255.255.255.0 package with the address 192.190.21.255 is delivered to all network nodes of the network. This newsletter is called the broadcast message (broadcast).
Dynamic IP address
IP address is called dynamic if it is assigned automatically when you connect the device to the network and used for a limited period of time, usually until the session connection.
